As per usual the teams were split in two and two separate games were played. Team 1 found the going tough in the first half of their game. Midleton had a few big physical players and on a tight pitch Glenville found it hard to get scores. Ross Hennessy and Eanna FitzGerald lined up in midfield for Glenville and they were well able to match the physicality of Midleton. It was a great sign when things got tough that these players were able to keep their heads, and soon enough the scores started to come.
Team 2 found things a bit easier in their game. Playing with the wind, the full forward line of Colin Healy, Ciaran O’Riordan and Darragh Casey were causing Midleton all sorts of problems. Liam Foley and Eoghan Knapp were working well in midfield, and similar to team 1, they were more than able to match the physicality of the Midleton players.
Team 1 were slowly managing to take control of their game. Man of the match Callum O’Mahony was extremely effective at winning the ball in the Glenville forward line, and was rewarded with Glenville’s first goal of the game. Points from Eanna FitzGerald and Colm O’Regan left Glenville leading at half time by 1:6 to 0:3.
Team 2 took control in the second half of their game. Daniel Cronin was the key man in this game and his reading of the ball meant he controlled the middle of the pitch throughout. Joseph O’Riordan was very effective when bursting out of defence, and Ciaran O’Leary was dangerous as usual in front of goal.
Team 1 had to battle throughout their game. Mike O’Driscoll and Patrick Ryan were solid in defence as usual, and Jamie Curtain may have found a new home in the backline as he was very strong throughout. Cian O’Callaghan made his return to the U11 team this year with a clean sheet in goal. Soon up in the forward line the floodgates were opened and Colm O’Regan and Ben Flanagan began to cut loose. They made the art of goal scoring look easy and by the time the final whistle went, they had put six past the Midleton goalkeeper.
Team 2 continued their onslaught on the Midleton goal. Brendan Lehane made some classy runs out of defence, and by the end of the game Glenville were cruising.
Another great outing for this Glenville team. The U10s will be travelling to Dromtarrif next week where they will hope to go third time lucky in the competition. The U12s will take on Donoughmore next Saturday away.
